#65 with Rachid Abu Hassan from WeWork

Shownotes

"Office space is not only about science and numbers. It's first and foremost about the people!"

Podcast 65 with WeWork’s Design Director Rachid

How will we work in the future? We’ve been there: It’s a WeWork office in Chelsea, NYC. At first we thought it's one of the many WeWork locations in New York City but it was actually their HQ. We had the chance to meet Rachid Abu-Hassan, Design Director at WeWork, and we learned a lot about how the 20bn ‘community workspace’ startup influences the modern workplace. Rachid has a background in acoustics, which gives him a unique view on how he sees the influence that space has on the people who work there every day, from human to cable, from engineering to emotions. There is more to an office than screens and desks. Michael’s experience at his agency has shown him how an office can actually change the way people work. And at Blackboat we see the office as a communication tool - a very efficient one, but just a tool. So we already are very open to rethinking old ways of designing office space. But Rachid and the WeWork HQ challenged us to rethink that linear way of approaching workspace redesign. And we understood that this is just the beginning: Office space needs a makeover, especially during times when the digital and physical worlds merge and the lines between work and pleasure keep blurring.

Let's open up the discussion for your thoughts. What are the best New Workspace concepts that you know? How do you like the WeWork approach (there is also a video about our visit in Christoph channel Youtube.com/christophmagnussen)? What are concepts that you have experienced and enjoyed? What are epic fails?
